PURPOSE:To prevent excessive photographing magnification by setting a close limit distance so that it may be longer as a focal distance becomes longer and inhibiting an operation for changing the focal distance when an object is positioned closer to a camera side over a photographing range. CONSTITUTION:A microcomputer 9 constitutes a distance information detection means and a zoom control means. Then, the microcomputer 9 sets the close limit distance which becomes longer as the focal distance is longer separately from a shortest photographing distance determined based on a range where a focusing lens 3 can move. Based on the result obtained by detecting distance information while a variator lens 2 is moved, the movement of the lens 2 is inhibited when the close limit distance comes to a state where it is longer than a distance to the object from a state where it is shorter than the distance to the object. Namely, that the object near the camera is photographed in a state where the focal distance is long is avoided. Thus, photographing in a desired photographing magnification range is performed regardless of the lens characteristic of a photographing optical system and mechanical restriction. |
