PURPOSE:To improve the ratio of the contrast between before and after irradiation of recording laser beams thereby to improve the C/N at the reproducing time of information by providing a recording layer containing Te, Ge and Zn with the ratio of atoms thereof set in a predetermined range. CONSTITUTION:An optical recording medium 10 is comprised of a substrate 3, a recording layer 2 formed on the surface of the substrate 3 and a protective layer 1 formed on the surface of the recording layer 2. The recording layer 2 is a thin film of an alloy containing Te, Ge and Zn, and which may include an element of a low melting point other than Te or the other components. Among them, Te-Ge-Zn alloy or an alloy mainly composed of Te-Ge-Zn is preferable. Since the recording layer contains Ge and Zn in addition to Te, the crystallization temperature of the recording layer becomes high, thereby improving the anti-oxidation property and durability of the optical recording body. Moreover, supposing that the ratio of atoms of Te, Ge and Zn in the recording layer 2 is expressed by (x) and (y) in (TexGe100-x)100-y Zny, 20<=x<=90 and 20<=y<=70 hold. |
