PURPOSE:To improve selectivity yield free from by-products by a simple operation in obtaining the title compound usetul as spice for various foods and drinks from limonene by using zeolite as a catalyst and bringing limonene into contact with zeolite in the presence of water. CONSTITUTION:Limonene is brought into contact with zeolite in the presence of water preferably at pH3-5 at 20-130 deg.C, preferably 70-100 deg.C to give the aimed compound. Zeolite X, clinoptilolite or mordenite is used as the zeolite. The zeolite has no limitation in shape and is preferably powder with about 200-300 meshes. The amount of the zeolite used is preferably 1-30 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. water. The amount of limonene raw material is preferably 1-20 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. water. Contacting of zeolite, water and limonene is preferably carried out by vigorously bringing the zeolite into contact with the reaction system and reacting while vigorously stirring. |
