Belt roller for a vehicle safety belt having a winding shaft in a housing to wind and unwind a belt held against the force of a spring in which the toothing (4) and the counter toothing (7) exhibit tooth forms which permit a limited degree of synchronised engagement. A control wheel, or at least its teeth, is connected to the winding shaft over an angular area which overlaps a tooth division.
