<p>Introduction of Zr into molten metals pref. Al or Al alloys by means of complex salts free from alkali metals, consisting of an anionic part composed of six F atoms and one Zr atom. and a cationic part composed of any of seven metals which may be either constituents of the alloy under treatment or beneficial additions or at least non-harmful additions. The salt is formed by reacting a 1.86 pbw of HF (density 1.14) with 1.23 pbw ZrO2 in a Pt capsule in a water bath at 98 degrees C. The other part of molecule is formed by reacting HF similarly with the desired metal carbonates. The resultant products are filtered off and then united in a capsule followed by concentration and crystallisation.</p> |
