The axial slide ring seal for a hydraulic machine comprises a slide ring (12) fixed on a rotating shaft (15) and provided with a primary sealing face (16) whilst a secondary sealing assembly (17) supports a primary sealing ring (7) in a fixed ring chamber housing (1). The secondary sealing assembly (17) which has restricted axial and radial movement has a cylindrical sleeve (4) which is fixed inside the ring chamber housing (1), extends concentrically relative to the shaft (15) and projects into a secondary seal formed on the inner circumference of the primary seal ring (7). Inside the ring chamber housing there is a spring assembly (21) which pre-tensions the primary sealing ring. At least the inner circumference of the primary sealing ring and secondary seal (8) are made from a material having the same temperature behaviour as the material of the cylindrical sleeve so that the friction force in the secondary seal is independent of the operating temperature. ADVANTAGE - The same sealing tension is ensured.
