A playback head 36 co-operating with an optical record 10 inculdes a flexible lightconductor 52 having a free end which is kept in position over the centre of the record track by means of an electromechanical transducer 54 responsive to signals from the playback head representative of the difference between the signals picked up form the record 10 by two sideby-side optical fibres 52a, 52b, this difference being zero when the fibres are over the centre of the record track. The difference signal may be applied also to a solenoid (22, Fig. 1), controlling the position of pivoted arms (24, 26) carrying the head 36 and lamp 28. A modified form of transducer 54 (Figs. 6A, 6B) is able also to move the free end of the pair of optical fibres 52a, 52b along the track in response to variations in the frequency of a clock signal picked up from the record. |
