[Also in Division F4] Wooden bearing elements are made by shaping moisture containing plasticized pieces of wood, and treating them with hot lubricating oil whereby the piece is simultaneously set in shape and impregnated with oil. The moisture content of the wood is preferably greater than its fibre saturation point. The bearing surface may be ground or sanded, and the non-bearing surface of the element may be machined or coated with a layer of oil resistant plastics to facilitate mounting of the element. |
