1311528 Making welded steel structures KVERNELANDS FABRIKK AS 11 Aug 1970 [13 Aug 1969] 38640/70 Heading B3A In a method of making a welded steel construction in which the parts have different hardening and welding characteristics, the parts are welded together using electrodes of a material having a hardening characteristic which lies between the hardening characteristics of the steel parts, whereafter the construction is heated to above the conversion temperature and quenched to below the lower martensite temperature. A stem 1 having a hardness of about 50 HRc is welded to a connecting surface 2 having a hardness of about 30 NRc and to arms 3, 4 having a hardness of about 45 HRc. The electrodes, on hardening, have hardnesses respectively of between 30-50 NRc and 45-50 HRc. The welded structure is heated to 900‹ C. and then quenched to room temperature. |
