PURPOSE:To perform an ideal recording without generating a poor delivery or non-delivery even after capping by a method wherein a predetermined space including the vicinity of a delivery port is formed so as to be invariable in internal pressure with the action of a capping member for capping a delivery port surface for discharging an ink. CONSTITUTION:As a timing gear 21 rotates in a direction D, a cylinder 24 rotates in a direction F, a sealing cap 35a of a cap 35 is depressed against a delivery port forming surface, and a capping action is completed. At this time, a sealing surface and a cap sealing part 35e are also brought into close contact and sealed with each other by the pressing force of the cap. At this time, a solid layer 350a of a close contact pad 350 abuts on a front sealing plate, that is attached on the delivery port forming surface 9d and provided with an open part in the vicinity of a delivery port, whereby sealing a space DELTAV formed at the open part. If a pressure inside the sealing cap 35e is increased after that, the internal pressure of the space DELTAV is not changed because the solid layer 350a is never deformed by a pressure change. In this manner, a meniscus in a delivery port 9C cannot be retracted but always kept at a fixed position. |
