PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording medium and a method of optical recording which is rewritable with fast recording rate at low cost by incorporating light-absorbing material into a recording layer comprising crystalline polymer which changes its degree of crystallinity according to temp. or into a layer which is adjacent to this recording layer. CONSTITUTION:The recording layer 1 consists of crystalline polymer 2 which changes its degree of crystallinity according to temp., and this layer or a layer adjacent to this recording layer contains light-absorbing material 3. When this recording medium is irradiated with light, the light-absorbing material absorbs light to generate heat and raise the temp. of the crystalline polymer in the area where light irradiates to the melting point. By rapidly or slowly cooling the medium, the degree of crystallinity of the polymer is changed and consequent ly, the optical properties are changed, by which information can be recorded. Since crystallinity of the polymer is reversible, recording-erasing can be performed reversibly with light. |
