A process for preparing mono- and di-hydroxyfluoroalkanes which comprises reacting in a homogeneous phase the corresponding iodo-fluoroalkanes with water in an organic solvent, completely miscible with water or in which water is soluble at 1.7% at least by weight at 20 DEG C, and in the presence of a catalyst comprising one or more transition metal ions at a temperature of 120 to 280 DEG C. |
