An internal combustion engine (10) comprises a rotor housing (14) inside (24) which a rotor (12) with a rotor shaft (30) is rotatably mounted. At least one combustion device (18) for combustion of an explosive mixture which drives the rotor (12) is arranged on the rotor housing (14). The rotor housing (14) has a cylindrical inner surface (34). The rotor (12) is designed as an impeller with blade elements (28) which extend radially outward from the rotor shaft (30). Each blade element (28) has an impact section (32) for the explosive mixture. The impact sections (32) of the blade elements (28) are all aligned in the same direction of rotation. The combustion device(s) (18) is (are) provided with a combustion chamber (20).
