<p>The apparatus comprises, in a stationary frame (100), a so-called "slaved isokinetic" work chain and a so-called "programmable dual-force drive chain", each comprising a drum (2, 73), a cable (1,1') which is wound on the drum and ends in a handle (27,27') to be gripped by the operator, and a return element (5,5') tending to wind the cable up on the drum. A motor (7) followed by a non-reversible reducing gear (8) is connected to the drums of the two chains by unidirectional transmission means (12, 72, 80) so as to exert or not to exert a force on the cable according to the direction and the speed of movement of the latter.
