PURPOSE:To mainly reduce the width of the shelf part of an inner panel by moving the lower part of a cover member toward the inner part of the inner panel in the title device wherein a cover member is ruptured from the fragile part and divided upward and downward when an air bag is expanded. CONSTITUTION:In an air bag unit 20, an air bag 22 is folded and stored inside a casing 21 having an opening 21a, and a gas generator 23 to expand the air bag 22 is provided, and further the upper part of the casing 21 is covered by a lid that is a cover member. And, the lid is ruptured from the fragile part in the center when the air bag 22 is expanded, and divided to an upper part 24a and a lower part 24b. In this instance, the lid lower part 24b is supported by a steering ring support member 15 with a supporting member 28 through a lower hinge 29. And, when the air bag 22 is expanded, the lid lower part 24b is rotated toward the inside of an inner panel 1, and stored in the space 31 between a shelf part 30 and the member 15. |
