METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING A CONTROLLED ATMOSPHERE

A method and apparatus for producing a controlled atmosphere in an enclosed, substantially airtight space. The method includes the removal of oxygen, carbon dioxide, ethylene, and water droplets from a gas stream to be injected into the enclosed space. The apparatus disclosed includes first and second atmosphere control systems. Both atmosphere control systems use air compressors and gas separators using diffusion membranes. The first atmosphere control system gets input from both the enclosed space and the outside atmosphere. The second atmosphere control system receives air only from the outside atmosphere. The two systems are managed, controlled and coordinated by a central digital computer.
