PURPOSE:To safely obtain antimicrobial yarn having antimicrobial action for a long period of time by absorbing and dispersing hinokitiol into conjugate yarn comprising an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin and a thermoplastic resin having a higher melting point than the resin. CONSTITUTION:A resin consisting essentially of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (preferably one containing 10-40wt.% vinyl acetate) and having 2-200 melt index and a thermoplastic resin (preferably polyethylene terephthalate) having a higher melting point than the resin are fed to different melt extruders, melted, extruded, and the molten polymer flows are combined by a fitment of spinning head, delivered from a spinneret to give conjugate yarn comprising the ethylene- vinyl acetate copolymer resin amounting to 10-90wt.%, preferably 20-80wt.% on the surface area. The yarn is immersed in a solution of hinokitiol in a vegetable oil and hinokitiol is absorbed and retained in the ethylene-vinyl acetate part of the yarn to give antimicrobial yarn. |
