[Also in Divisions C3 and C5] Metal articles and automotive windshields are provided with protective, strippable coatings by dipping in melts of compositions comprising a paraffin or intermediate petroleum wax melting in the range 115 to 165‹F., a primary fatty acid amide, a copolymer of ethylene with vinyl acetate or ethyl acrylate, mineral oil and a modified rosin. Specified amides are erucamide, oleylamide, palmitamide, stearamide and behenamide. Specified modified rosins are polymerised, hydrogenated, disproportionate and limed rosins and heattreated tall oil. Examples describe the coating of steel thread taps with compositions comprising paraffin wax, erucamide, mineral oil, heat-treated tall oil and (1 and 5) ethylene/ vinyl acetate copolymers, (9) an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer and an amine derivative of an alkenyl succinic anhydride, and (11) an ethylene/ethyl acrylate copolymer; and for comparison with a composition comprising wax, copolymer and monoglyceride of hydrogenated lard. |
