Process to obtain design effects in the course of dyeing or printing textile material in the absence of alkali or reducing agents by pretreating the textile material with a cationising agent, drying, applying an oxidising agent in the form of a design, drying, and dyeing or printing with reactive, direct, acid, water-soluble sulphur or pigment dyes in the absence of alkali or a reducing agent.
