Prodn. of a gravel substitute material from waste slag produced in a scrap incineration plant consists of removing coarse material and iron scrap by sieving and electromagnetic sepn. followed by washing in a counter-current water stream to remove water soluble materials. The slag is again sieved to remove the coarse material and to divide into a medium and fine aggregate. The fine and medium fractions are separately dehydrated before being remixed together. To help remove the wash water and aid sieving the slag, fresh water is sprayed over the material. USE/ADVANTAGE - As material for constructing roads and dams. Is an enviromentally acceptable raw material for use in construction industry.
