The kite has a linkage with transverse and longitudinal struts which a sail is fixed. The kite (1) is formed from several individual kites (2, 3) which are interconnected by the transverse struts (4, 5) so that the individual kites can rotate w.r.t. each other about the transverse struts. The individual kites have identical sail surfaces (10, 11). Each individual kite has at least one associated balance (13, 14) which comprises at least one cable (13a, 14a) fixed above or below the transverse struts and/or the longitudinal struts (8, 9) on the sail.
