<p>PURPOSE:To produce iron from scraps by using low grade carbonaceous materials without using electric power by charging the carbonaceous materials together with the scraps into the molten iron in a reactor and forming the site for combustion of gaseous CO on the molten metal. CONSTITUTION:Some pig iron or molten steel is charged as a seed melt into a reactor 2. Then, scraps 5 and carbonaceous materials such as coal are charged into the molten iron. When oxygen is blown through upper, lower blow ports 23, 24, the oxidation of the carbon charged into the molten iron to CO takes place, and further the greater part of the formed CO is oxidized to CO2 in the space in the upper part of the reactor 2. The charged scraps 5 are melted by the heat evolved by this oxidation reaction; at the same time, recarburization to the molten iron takes place. This recarburization progresses quickly by the forced agitation by the blowing of the gas. In this way, the reactor iron making is accomplished with high productivity.</p> |
