An automatic telephone-answering and message-recording apparatus having two functions, one serving to send outgoing messages and the other serving to record the caller's incoming messages after the outgoing message has been sent out be selectively loading two kinds of cartridges the contents of each having separate outgoing messages and having an additional auxiliary operation mechanism for preventing said cartridges from misloading.
