<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a sound absorber which can be applied for an engine so as to effectively absorb noise caused by a gas stream and other mechanical noise and which is cheap and excellent in general purposes, by packing a fiber- like material in a cylindrical body which is made of metal wires so as to have an air permeability. CONSTITUTION:A sound absorbers 1 are arranged in, for example, three rows with a staggered pattern in a casing 6. Further, the diameter D of the absorbers 1 is set to be larger than the intervals d of them. When high temperature and high pressure exhaust gas E discharged from, for example, a pipe 9, is led through a casing 6 from its inlet port 7 to its outlet port 8, it is allowed to strike upon the sound absorbers 1 so as to absorb sound. In this arrangement, each of the sound absorbers 1 has a cylindrical body 2 made of, for example, stainless steel wire gauzes which are superposed with each other. Further, stainless steel caps 3, 3' formed therein with attaching holes 5 are fitted on both end parts of the body 2, and stainless steel wool is packed in the body.</p> |
