PURPOSE:To securely seal the double seam joint between a container and a lid in order to improve the shelf stability of the content by interposing the sealing compound containing an acrylic polymer and adhesive at normal temperature between the flange of the top opening of the container and the peripheral edge of the lid to be held together with the double seam joint. CONSTITUTION:The inner surface of peripheral edge 12 of a metal lid 11 is precoated entirely with a sealing compound 23 having an acrylic polymer and adhesive at normal temperature. A container 14 is packed with its contents and a double seam joint is formed at normal temperature between a flange 15 of the container 14 and the peripheral edge 12 of the metal lid 11. In this case, the sealing compound 23 is pressed, whereby the peripheral edge 12 and the flange 15 are adhesively attached together to seal the double seam joint. The sealing compound 23 containing the acrylic polymer and having continuous adhesive performance at a normal temperature is employed and diluted with a diluent such as ethyl acetate, toluene, and the like at the time of application. |
