PURPOSE:To easily perform the control of a document by preventing the settlement of the document from being delayed or the document from being dissipated by providing a recorder to record the status of the settlement of an electronic document, and a tracing device to trace the status of the settlement based on a record. CONSTITUTION:A document preparator retrieves an object document ID in trouble to recognize the settling status of the document via a document trace processing part 5. And an (inquiry electronic mail) is automatically issued to the delivery destination of the document via a transmission/reception processing part 3 by inputting a retrieved document ID and a document trace request to the processing part 5. A work station receiving the (inquiry electronic mail) informs the (inquiry electronic mail) to a document trace processing part 5' via a transmission/reception processing part 3'. Thereby, the processing part 5' obtains the processing status of the document from an authorization logging file 4', and informs information to an inquiry origin in an electronic mail.
