<p>PURPOSE:To make the constitution of a device compact and to obtain high performance by utilizing the fact that the phase of an electric component at gaps between a coplanar line formed at the surface of a Pockels crystal plate and grounding patterns on both neighboring parts is inverted. CONSTITUTION:Emitted light L0 from a laser light source 4 is split 6 through a variable delay line 5. One light is made to be sampling laser light L1 and undergoes linear polarization 7. Laser light L2 which is turned 8 by 1/4 wavelength is projected to regions including gaps 12a and 12b between an electric signal line 9 of a Pockels crystal plate 11 where a coplanar line is formed and grounding-pattern lines 10a and 10b on both neighboring parts. Then, electric field intensities are generated at the gaps 12a and 12b in correspondence with the voltage of the signal line 9. The phase of the electric field component which is orthogonal to the signal line 9 is inverted. The increase and the decrease in intensity of the laser light L3 are reversed between both gaps 12a and 12b. Therefore, the laser light L3 undergoes linear polarization again 13, and thereafter only one of the two components of the orthogonal polarized light beams is transduced into electric signals S1 and S2 in light intensity detectors 14 and 15. Then, the signals are differentially amplified 16, and observation at low noise and high sensitivity can be performed.</p> |
