Press felt for use in papermaking machine

A press felt for use in a papermaking machine. The press felt includes a base fabric produced of polybutylene terephthalate having a batt of chlorine resistant fibers secured to at least an upper surface of the base fabric, and preferably to both sides of the base fabric. The base fabric preferably has a plurality of noncircular monofilament warp or machine direction ends and a plurality of round monofilament shute or machine direction ends interwoven therewith according to a predetermined weave pattern.
