NEW MATERIAL:A compd. of formula I [wherein (k+l+m+n) R' groups are substituents of -(CR<2>R<3>)xSiR<4>R<5>R<6>; R<2> to R<6> are each H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxyl, or aryl(oxyl); k, l, m and n are each 0-4 and k+l+m+n>=1; x is 1-30; x CR<2>R<3> groups may be the same or different from each other; M is Si, Ge, or Sn; Y is aryloxyl, alkoxyl, trialkysiloxyl, triarylsiloxyl, etc.]. EXAMPLE:Bis(tri-n-butylsiloxy)silicon-tetra(trimethylsilylmethylthio) naphthalocyanine. USE:An optical recording medium. PREPARATION:A naphthalocyanine deriv. of formula II is reacted with a chlorocyanine of formula III, a silanol of formula IV (wherein R<7> and R<8> are each alkyl, aryl, alkoxyl, or aryloxyl), and an alcohol or formula V (wherein R<9> is alkyl or aryl) or a compd. of formula VI (wherein R<10> is alkyl; and X is halogen, hydroxyl. or acyloxyl).
