An auxiliary mandrel 8 in the collecting shaft 11 of a wire coil collector is normally supported on arms 10. To guide wire coils onto pallet 4 having four vertical bars supporting pallet tip 13, four columns 2 are raised vertically on carriage 1 to support mandrel 8, and arms 10 are withdrawn. Descending wire coils are then collected about the bars and columns 2. After the lowering of the columns on carriage 1 the pallet 4 with the coils is moved on rolling track 3.
