USE:To provide a novel ferroelectric chiral smectic liquid crystal composition useful as a ferroelectric liquid crystal element with a quick response which temperature dependence is decreased. PREPARATION:Phenols expressed by formula IV are initially nitrated, for example, by reacting with nitric acid in a benzene/acetic acid-mixed solvent and the products are reduced to form o-aminophenols expressed by formula V, which are then reacted with compounds expressed by formula VI in the presence of pyridine, etc., and each of the products is cyclized.</p> |
