PURPOSE:To improve the strength and wear resistance of a composite body obtd. by sintering by adjusting the pH of a slurry contg. Si3N4, SiC whiskers and a sintering aid, uniformly dispersing the whiskers and increasing the viscosity of the slurry. CONSTITUTION:Si3N4, a sintering aid and SiC whiskers are mixed with water to prepare a slurry. The pH of this slurry is adjusted to >=9 or <=4 and the SiC whiskers are uniformly dispersed. The pH of the slurry is then changed to 5 to 8 and the viscosity of the slurry is increased. This slurry is filtered, dried, molded and sintered. |
