PURPOSE:To obtain high catalytic activity stably for long period of time by using single platinum catalyst or a catalyst containing platinum and specific metal element such as lead in fixed bed reactor in production of the subject compound by reduction of aromatic hydroperoxide with hydrogen in liquid phase. CONSTITUTION:In a production of aromatic alcohol useful as intermediate of various organic agents or solvents by reducing aromatic hydroperoxide in liquid phase, a single Pt catalyst or a mixed catalyst containing Pt and at least a species selected from Pb, Sn, Cu, As, Sb, In, Se and Bi is used in a fixed bed reactor. By said method, high activity is stably obtained without inactivation of catalyst even in using for a long period of time, and further inhibit simultaneous generation of nucleus hydrogenation reaction in addition to stabilized activity in a case of using said mixed catalyst, thus said raw material is stably reduced with hydrogen in high conversion to afford the objective compound in high selectivity. |
