PURPOSE:To enhance the shieldability of the visible light in non-picture element regions and to improve a contrast by forming a light shielding layer of a light shieldable insulator formed by dispersing and incorporating a blackened silver into an insulating binder. CONSTITUTION:This device has transparent substrates 10, electrode layers 20 consisting of transparent conductive films patterned in correspondence to picture elements and the light shielding layer 30 formed in correspondence to he electrode pattern spacings on the transparent substrates 10. The light shielding layer 30 is constituted of the light shieldable insulator formed by dispersing and incorporating the blackened silver into the insulating binder. Thereby the regions other than the picture regions is shielded by the shielding layer, and the absorbance of the blackened silver is high and the shieldability of the visible light in the non-picture element regions is high. The contrast is thus improved. |
