PURPOSE:Subject material effective for air purification having 0.05 to 0.5g/cm<2> bulk density, 85 to 95% carbon content, 500m<2>/g or more specific surface area, 10mm H2O pressure reduction at 50cm/sec. wind velocity and of high adsorption speed and much adsorption volume, and easy for processing and of small pressure loss by carbonizing and activating a phenol resin foamed material. CONSTITUTION:A plate-shaped air purifying filter material, composed of a carbonized and activated phenol resin foamed material and having 0.05 to 0.5g/cm<2> bulk density, 85 to 95% carbon content, 500m<2>/g or more specific surface area, 10mm H2O or less pressure reduction at 50cm/sec. wind velocity, is manufactured. A phenol resin formed material is manufactured by foam curing phenol resin, preferably resole type phenol resin. As for a foaming agent, chlorofluorocarbon R11 is adequate, and sulfuric acid or the like is used as a curing agent. The resin foamed material thus manufactured is cut into plate- shaped pieces, and then carbonized in non-oxidizing atmosphere to form a carbon porous material. Then, the same is heated in oxidizing gas atmosphere and activated. |
