The workpiece holder (1), to position a workpiece and esp. for sewing machines, has two plates above each other with the workpiece clamped between them. The lower plate is supported by a roller ball table (5). The drive (9) has a spreader (10) which mvoes on the X-axis and the Y-axis, with a foot (12) bearing down on the upper plate at right angles to the X-Y plane, and a head (13) at a slide (9) moving on one co-ordinate line fitted to another guide (15) moving on the other co-ordinate direction. ADVANTAGE - The appts. allows a workpiece to be stitched all round without interruption.
