PURPOSE:To enable uniform mixing and to produce high-density and high- strength carbon material at the time of mixing a self-sintering carbonaceous mesophase microbeads, carbon powder and a caking agent by dissolving the caking agent into an org. solvent and mixing the soln. with the materials. CONSTITUTION:(A) One hundred pts.wt. of the self-sintering mesophase microbeads (obtained by depositing a pitch component on the surface of the microbeads having several to ten-odd mum average grain diameter), (B) 3-100 pts.wt. of carbon powder (having <=30mum average grain diameter), (C) 20-100 pts.wt. of a caking agent (e.g. petroleum pitch) based on 100 pts.wt. of the B component and (D) 100-300 pts.wt. of an org. solvent (tar middle oil having <=350 deg.C b.p. is preferably used) based on the 100 pts.wt. of the total of A, B and C are mixed, the mixture is slurried, the org. solvent is distilled off, and the product is formed, calcined and graphitized to obtain the high-density and high-strength carbon material. |
