Method for extracting internal conductors from the casing of a cable in which the conductors are mutually insulated by means of organic material, in which the cable is cut at two points which are spaced apart from one another, thus creating a length of cable from which it is required to extract the conductors, a first end of the length of cable is fed with a mixture of oxygen and impulsion gas such as, for example, carbon dioxide, at a predetermined pressure, said gas supply being maintained at said pressure until the gas mixture has penetrated between the conductors and the insulation until it reaches the second end of the length of cable, the organic material is set on fire at the second end of the length of cable, the supply of the gas mixture at a predetermined pressure still being maintained at the first end, with the result that the organic material burns as far as the first end and at least a substantial part of the organic material is converted into ashes, thereby occupying less space than the organic material before it was burnt, and finally the internal conductors are extracted from the casing of the cable once combustion of the insulation has reached the first end.
