<p>A temperature monitoring method and apparatus (10) for monitoring the temperature within a mass of organic matter (36) moved through a composting vessel (12). An elongated, stationary probe (82) extends through the vessel (12) from one end toward another end thereof. A plurality of temperature measuring devices (83) are mounted along the probe (82). The probe (82) may extend through a compaction ram (30) and be provided with a sleeve (108) for accommodating movement of the ram (30) relative to the probe (82). A decoupling device (116) provides for decoupling of the probe (82) from a mounting base (106) and an extraction device (114) permits the probe (82) to be extracted from the vessel (12) for replacement thereof. The probe (82) provides a method of monitoring temperature in the mass (36) and a method of composting by monitoring temperature in the mass (36) and regulating the temperature of the mass (36) in reponse thereto.</p> |
