The illumination system has a linearly displaced light conductor (14) with an operating drive which is linked to the drive for the pancratic system (1) of the microscope. To ensure that the light is directed to the correct point. Pref. the drive coupling between the pancratic system and the light guide (14) is releasable and the aperture is pref. adjustablee to reduce the brightness loss for higher magnification levels.
