A magnetic digital audio tape, DAT, cassette has a housing with a top cover (14) having a transparent panel to allow the tape spools to be observed. The spools are mounted on central spindles (22) which fit into bushes (1). The cup-shaped section of the bush pref. has a top surface (1) with printed or embossed symbols visible during rotation. An alternat-ive has a spool with an axial hole pattern. A further version has radial slots. ADVANTAGE - Easier identification of rotational direction.
