The device for cutting the parallel pile warps using a laser beam focused on a guide (32) allows the production of velvet. In order to reduce wear of this guide, a notch (32b) is formed with a view to holding the pile, and a positioning device comprising a lever (50) and a stop (33c) are used to place the notch (32b) at the point of focusing of the laser beam. A safety mechanism is used to actuate a bolt (37) for retaining an arm (29) pressed by a spring intended to retract the guide (32) in the event of abnormal functioning of this guide. <IMAGE>
