A sequence of four high frequency pulses is directed at a specimen. The first, weak pulse is selective for the nuclei of a first group. The second, weak pulse, selective for a second group, transforms the magnetisation of all nuclei into a multiple quanta coherence state. The third, strong pulse induces a correlated z-order state. A dephasing pulse is applied before the fourth, weak pulse which is selective for the first group which it converts into a single quantum coherence state, enabling detection of first group resonance. USE/ADVANTAGE - For detecting nuclear spin resonance spectra of specimens with groups of nuclei of same type. Enables display of only one group's signals.
