A wound film capacitor and partic. one with plastic film, has at least two metallic layers and intermediate insulation to form internal capacitor(s) in series between the two terminals. The prod. has at least one breakdown gap internally across at least one capacitor and in parallel, the breakdown strength of this gap being less than that of the wound capacitor. ADVANTAGE - The construction prevents electrical breakdown under overload and does so reliably.
