In a process for forming a box from a box blank, a packing space which in the direction of at least one plane is closed in essentially all directions is formed from an essentially straight box blank by folding the successive portions 12a, b, c, d of the blank to form angles with one another and by joining together the opposite ends of the blank. At least one fold is realized such that the preceding portion is detained by means of members, such as suction heads or the like, which grip from outside onto the outer surface of the blank. Prior to any folds, the blank is moved on its spot by means of a swivel arm 5, in that the latter grips the blank by means of members 7 located on the end of the arm, which members detain the blank as the first fold is realized. <IMAGE>
