Buckets for travelling-wave tubes - with power supplied by metallised coatings on walls of bores

Electron collector for a travelling-wave tube comprises several buckets in dandem to which different voltages are applied. The supply of the voltages is effected by metallised coating along the walls of bores and recesses which extend from the soldered seam between a bucket and the insulator to a contact on the face of the insulator. Pref. the electron beam (10) of a travelling wave tube passes from the HF interaction space to the buckets where the electrodes (1, 2, 3) collect the electrons to achieve pref. thermal load distribution. The electrodes, made of copper, are joined to metallised coatings (7) on the walls of bores (6) and recesses (8), leading to contacts (9) on the face of the insulator (4) which is made of ceramics e.g. BeO with a good heat conductivity. USE/ADVANTAGE - Travelling-wave tube in satellites. This offers improved vacuum tightness, a longer life and improved shock resistance.
