The impact damper is for the shock absorber of a vehicle. It consists of at least two displaceably arranged telescopic tubular bushes with an elastomeric spring element arranged inside the bushes. An intermediate bush (14) with a shoulder (19) is arranged in the annular space between the outer bush (12) and the inner bush (13); the spring element is split axially into an outer element (15) and an inner element (16) both of which abut the shoulder region. USE/ADVANTAGE - Shock absorber in which the spring action path can be increased without enlarging the radial volume.
