1461041 Laminates GAO GESFUR AUTOMATION UND ORGANISATION mbH 13 March 1975 [2 April 1974] 10530/75 Heading B5N [Also in Division B6] A data carrier comprises a data carrying paper blank 3 between two films 4 laminated thereto, wherein the blank or film has a local area 7 which is such that, during the laminating operation, the paper either does not in that area bond with the film or any such bond is minimal whereby, when an attempt is made to split the data carrier by tearing, the tear follows the line of least resistance in the paper and goes to a face of the paper at the local area and thus damages the face. In the embodiments shown in Figs. 5, 8 and 10, the paper is treated during manufacture at areas 7 with a silicone-based parting agent. The card may incorporate a substance, e.g. a filler material which binds the fibres of the paper more firmly together and, after lamination, increases the paper's internal strength in the area(s) to which with the films the substance has been applied. To effect this, the faces of the films, e.g. of PVC or polyester are coated with the substance, e.g. a thermosetting plastics material, leaving free those areas of the blank which must be damaged if the card is split. |
