PURPOSE:To reduce the number of cams of a master cam when a workpiece having several cam disks is machined, by making the rotary phase of a cam shaft on which said master cam is removably mounted, adjustable in relation to a workpiece shaft. CONSTITUTION:When a swinging table 1 is swung forward, with a grinding wheel 4 positioned against an intake-valve cam disk Wa and a touch roller 6 positioned against the first cam 7a of a master cam 7, the cam disk Wa is ground due to the simultaneous rotation of a workpiece shaft 2 with a cam shaft, and the swinging motion of the swinging table 1 following the cam 7a. Then, grinding is similarly carried out with the grinding wheel 4 positioned against an exhaust-valve cam disk Wb and the touch roller 6 positioned against the second cam 7b. And then, when cam disks Wa', Wb' respectively for intake and exhaust valves are ground, the cam shaft 8 is turned by 180 deg. against the workpiece shaft to adjust the phase between the shafts before grinding then in the similar way. Thus, the number of cams of the master cam can be reduced. |
