<p>PURPOSE:To separate the subject substance as a strongly adsorbed component by contacting a higher fatty acid ester mixture containing the subject substance with a faujasite Y-type zeolite having surface ion-exchange metal selected from Li, Na and K. CONSTITUTION:A higher fatty acid ester mixture produced by the ester- interchange reaction of a triglyceride containing an eicosapentaenoic acid ester(EPA) and/or a docosahexaenoic acid ester(DHA) with an alcohol is made to contact with a faujasite Y-type zeolite having surface ion-exchange metal selected from Li, Na and K at 20-100 deg.C to separate EPA and DHA as a strongly adsorbed component from the other hardly separable higher fatty acid components having boiling points close to those of EPA and DH. The raw material is preferably treated by vacuum distillation, supercritical gas extraction, etc., and a 20C fraction containing EPA or a 22C fraction containing DHA is use as the raw material.</p> |
